Optimize the quality of nursing practice in palliative care in a context of shifting to ambulatory care
Title of project 1:
"Descriptive study of the emergence of an integrated care network in palliative care, and anticipation of its effects on work satisfaction, quality of life, and quality of care"
General objective:
Optimize organizational support
Specific objective:
Describe how an integrated care network emerged in palliative care can serve as an example of an innovative nursing practice strategy designed to improve the quality of work life and thus the quality of care.
Approach:
Evaluative descriptive approach; single qualitative case study, based on integration of two conceptual frameworks: Giddens' structuring theory and Patton's emerging action theory. The data will be gathered through various methods (literature, semi-directed interviews, and focus groups).
Title of project 2:
"Assessment of a nursing network training program on work satisfaction and nursing expertise in palliative care"
General objective:
Optimize professional support
Specific objective:
Assess the effectiveness of nursing network training program at Maison Michel-Sarrazin on education needs and transfer of palliative care expertise in healthcare institutions in the Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches regions, and describe the links between training, perception of competency, work satisfaction, and quality of care.
Approach:
Evaluative descriptive approach; embedded qualitative case study. Conceptual framework, and data gathering method comparable to project 1.
Title of project 3:
"Effectiveness of an existential intervention to improve work satisfaction and quality of life for palliative care nurses: a randomized-clinical trial."
General objective: Optimize emotional support
Specific objective:
Test the effectiveness of an existential and psycho-educational intervention, specifically a 4-weeks group intervention, to better understand the values and beliefs associated with end-of-life accompaniment; to improve quality of life and satisfaction among nurses delivering palliative care in healthcare institutions in regions 03 and 12.
Approach:
Experimental, randomized-clinical trial, pretest-postest control group design (waiting-list control group)
Importance for Decision Makers:
In a context of palliative care structuring and staff shortages, the proposed program analyses the emergence of new models for organizing palliative care; innovation in training; and emotional support for nurses; taking into account nurses' capacity to adapt to their work environment.
